Communication: "A Jack of All Trades"

Communication has become a vital part of a person’s daily life but as generations pass, so does the art of communication. Generation Z has been born with social media platforms like Youtube, Instagram, and more that use visual and audio to tell short stories. As the stories become shorter, so do attention spans which is why it’s best to make sure the info that is being put out has a great visual with it. Visual communication uses graphics to invoke the emotions and seek out interpretations. Unlike written and verbal, visual has a direct approach. It is the most adaptable form because in this society, attention spans are short. With graphics, the eye is always of the beholder which makes it so complex. Color is an essential element to visual communication. A simple logo can spark emotion if the color scheme is molded perfectly to fit the vision. Without color, it will be difficult for people to rationalize their emotions since there is nothing to interpret in the visual. For example: H&R Bank. The color green is often associated with good luck or fortune. H&R uses green to create a positive connection with their audience and company. Kel Lauren is a graphic designer from Portland, Oregon. They have been featured in magazines “Fast Company” and “The Dieline” for their rebrands of popular logos. A common pattern in Lauren’s work is bold typography, fun colors, and animation. This works in their favor because when promoting, the visual aid needs to be eye-catching to develop further interest. Julia Fletcher is a graphic designer who works in the music industry to create designs for bands and a variety of artists. Her portfolio includes a wide variety of poster design, merchandise design, art direction, and photography! Julia collaborates each element into her designs by using explosive colors and typography to symbolize the genre, character, and vibe of the artist. Fletcher’s poster for the band “The Rolling Stones” depicts sunflowers scattered throughout with a large eye behind thick wavy lines. At the bottom, lies a caption that says “The Girl with the far away Eyes''. The letter “A” in the words “away” is separated to make it look as if there are eyes looking at someone from a distance. These little details are what makes a visual statement a classic. Stanley Donwood’s cover art for the soundtrack of the “Suspiria” rendition is a suspenseful masterpiece. Donwood’s use of vibrant pinks and blue hue’s match flawlessly with the pairing of hands that are in the shape of eyes. By doing this, Stanley has created an aura of mystery and manages to tell the story of “Suspiria" in just a few details. Communication is essential but how a person uses it is what will make them stand out in the crowd. Are you an artist? An entrepreneur? A lawyer? All of those roles require an insane amount of communication but each person handles it in a different way that fits the mold of their audience.

FLYER THUMBNAILS - Sweet Chaos: The Rise of Insulin Prices

The pharmaceutical industry and insurance companies have used diabetics as puppets to hang from their diabolical strings. Diabetes is known as a disease where the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin. Insulin stabilizes their blood sugar levels and helps diabetics use the sugar in their body effectively. Without insulin, many will experience the absolute turmoil that this disease brings; blurred vision, vomiting, and a slow painful death. In recent years, insulin prices have skyrocketed 15 percent. Due to this, many have resorted to rationing insulin, buying through the black market, or playing russian roulette by creating their own “insulin”.  Diabetes has two types; Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 Diabetes is less common amongst individuals. It is an autoimmune disease that attacks pancreatic beta cells which stops their body from producing insulin. Therefore, type 1 diabetics have to take insulin every day or they could die in less than a month. However, Type 2 has a different effec...

Picture Perfect

The layouts I chose fit my personality and are symbolic to who I am. I am a simple person but I can add flair to my life when needed. My favorite out of all these designs has to be the one with my last name upside down. It doesn't give off a bulky vibe but it adds spice and gives a sense of who the future employee is without saying too much.
